A Lesson Learned
The Importance of Listening to God's Voice
It's common to hear people say they struggle to hear God's voice, or even believe that He doesn't speak anymore. However, I disagree with this notion. For those having trouble hearing, it is possible to develop healthy spiritual habits like prayer, fasting, and worship to help open your ears to His voice. I can personally attest to hearing God's voice regularly.
Now, let's dive into this month's blog topic: "Lesson Learned." In 2017, my husband and I felt called by God to make public all the things we had been doing behind the scenes for years. We were that house where anyone and everyone was welcome, providing love, support, food, and life lessons to kids, teens, and young adults. It felt right to take it up a notch, and so we launched The Root Transformation Ministries during the last quarter of that year. It was amazing.
Soon after, things began to shift unexpectedly. We moved from our original location and started setting up our dining room to fit the ministry. Each Saturday, we would meet up, eat, laugh, learn, and grow. However, the arrival of Covid-19 slowed us down, which actually worked to our advantage. God had more to teach us, and we were led to a ministry that opened our spiritual eyes to a greater picture. Over the next couple of years, we were filled with many teachings.
In 2022, my sister introduced me to someone she worked with, which turned out to be God's plan all along. This woman had the sweetest heart and the kindest spirit, and after just one conversation, God used her to wake my spirit back up and reset His perfect plan for my life. My husband and I enjoyed her and her husband's company so much that we started to pop in and out of their ministries. Our hearts grew for them so much that we wanted to help them push their ministry. We felt everything was perfectly aligned and called them to let them know we wanted to partner with them in 2023.
However, we were wrong. We learned an important lesson: never rely on feelings alone. Even though everything felt right, God spoke to our hearts and convicted us like never before. He had already given us something that we needed to be attentive to, rather than partnering with someone else's ministry. He called us to manage what He had given us. We knew exactly what He was talking about, prayed about it, and began to work quickly. Before we knew it, we had relaunched The Root Transformation Ministries in February 2023.
The biggest lesson I learned from this experience is to always go with the voiceprint of the Lord, no matter what others see, hear, or feel. Even if something seems right or like a great work for the kingdom, if God hasn't okayed it, don't do it!
